In Italy, women’s image has undergone a dramatic change over the past twenty years, which has partly been induced by television, media and sexual scandals involving political leaders. Rarely a woman is considered as something different from her own body and beauty. Moreover, women are soon sexually objectified in their lives, starting from the childhood, in which every woman can experience violence, danger and harassment. The reason why all this is happening is the authorities’ lack of interests in educating society to act differently, and furthermore the political order of the last 30 years created the worst available context to eradicate such kind of problems. Therefore, I believe that the act of defining women identity in terms of stereotypes is comparable to an act of violence.
Here I create this metaphor: watching the camera, I paint over and over my lips drawing a bigger mouth and a clown nose with a red lipstick.drawing a clown face.
