DESTROYING EVE BEFORE THE APOCALYPSE

2015

Photo self-release performance by Marta Lodola, materials white textile, an apple, wind

The site-specific action in the old airport of Berlin is a ritual of “letting go”, an intimate way to overcome Eve’s stereotype. Eve is the woman that committed the first sin in the Bible, giving reasons to the humans to attach to each woman a guilty identity. I walk with an apple in my hand (symbol of Eve’s sin) with a white cloth covering most of my upper body and my face. I can’t see outside, I can only see lights and shadows.

I move in relation to the blowing of the wind, which pushes the cloth on my body or helps me to get rid of it. The performance is a dialogue with this immaterial element, in which deciding the right direction leads me to uncover my eyes in order to be able to really see around.
